RWTH 2020: Meeting Global Challenges. The Integrated Interdisciplinary University of Technology
In November 2007, under the Excellence Initiative of the federal and state governments, RWTH introduced the Institutional Strategy I, funded for an initial period of five years. It was titled "RWTH 2020: Meeting Global Challenges.". Within the scope of this funding phase the project house "Interdisciplinary Management Practice", IMP, that was the predecessor of the project house IMF, contributed substantially to meet this challenges.
RWTH Aachen University has set itself the goal to make a substantial contribution to global competition and to the promotion of top-level research at German universities. To this end, the University will fully exploit its potential in science and engineering, so as to be able to meet the complex challenges of the future with the help of holistic research strategies.
One of the long-term goal of RWTH Aachen University to sharpen its scientific profile as an integrated, interdisciplinary, and international university of technology. This will be achieved with the help of a fundamental restructuring process which focuses on the University's core competences in the natural sciences and engineering, involving all Faculties.
To make sure that this complex process of re-orientation and re-focussing will be realised in a swift and competent manner, the university as developed four specific measures within its Institutional Strategy I. These measures are designed to address existing weaknesses and strengthen existing strengths. From November 2012 until 2017, under the Excellence Initiative of the federal and state governments, these measures are continued in a slightly modified form, as defined in the Institutional Strategy II.
